Side, in the Manavgat district east of Antalya, is one of the rare resort areas where history and holiday genuinely share the same space. The ancient city on the peninsula — the Temple of Apollo, the theatre, the colonnaded street and the old harbour — defines its identity: after dinner you can walk to the sea through Roman ruins. Unlike Belek’s self-contained resort logic, Side mixes hotel holidays with an old-town strolling culture.
The name Side covers a long stretch of coast, and the sub-area you pick shapes your stay. Around the peninsula itself, accommodation is mostly small-scale and boutique, ideal if you want history and beach on foot. Kumkoy is the lively, beach-and-nightlife end; Colakli and Titreyengol are calmer strips of larger family hotels, the latter set around a small green lake.
Practical points: a hotel labelled Side may be a long way from the ancient town, so check the sub-area; airport transfers are longer than to Belek or Lara; and summer evenings around the old town get busy, with car access sometimes restricted.
