Best Places to Visit in Kemer: Sea Meets Pine Mountains

Tahtalı (Mount Olympos) cable car

That towering peak dominating Kemer's skyline is Mount Tahtalı, known in antiquity as Olympos. The cable car climbs to 2,365 metres, and it is easily the region's signature experience. While the coast bakes in summer heat, the summit can be cool and windy, so pack a light jacket even in July. From the top, the entire coastline, the coves and the endless sea open beneath your feet. Pick a clear day; the whole point is the view, and haze can spoil it. Schedules shift with the season, so check current times before you go.

Göynük Canyon

On a hot day, few things beat wading through Göynük Canyon. Icy, crystal-clear water runs between sheer rock walls, and the scent of pine makes the whole place feel otherworldly. The trail is marked and easy to follow near the entrance, while guided tours with life jackets take you deeper in. Wear shoes with grip and clothes you do not mind soaking. The water looks calm at first but grows colder and deeper as you go, so families with small children may prefer to stay near the start.

Ulupınar trout country

No trip to Kemer is complete without lunch in Ulupınar. Cold spring water pours down from the flanks of Tahtalı, and along this green valley you will find restaurants built on wooden platforms over the stream, shaded by huge plane trees. Eating with the sound of running water at your feet, in dappled shade, is one of the most peaceful things you can do here. There are many options along the valley, most offering a similar atmosphere, so simply pick one that feels right. The road winds a little, so take your time driving up.

Yörük Park, Moonlight Beach, and the fires of Chimaera

Near the town centre, Yörük Park sits on a small peninsula and offers sea views through the pines along with tents recreating traditional Yörük nomad life. Right beside it, Moonlight Beach is one of Kemer's liveliest coves, with clear water and an easygoing, family-friendly buzz.

A little to the south lies the bohemian pairing of Olympos and Çıralı, where forest, ruins and a long quiet beach meet. The real magic, though, is Yanartaş, the eternal flames of the Chimaera: natural gas seeping through the rocks has burned here for thousands of years. Go after dark, when the small flames flickering on the mountainside are genuinely unforgettable. The climb is rocky, so bring sturdy shoes and a torch.
